The Windows 7 drivers will be made available with the release of the new DYMO Label™ v.8 software. The UK release is expected “at the end of September” – I’m assuming that’s 2009… ;-)

It’s not clear at this stage if any of the old LW3xx series will be supported, but I think it’s fairly safe to assume that the really old ones that weren’t Vista compatible probably won’t be Windows 7 compatible either.

Currently it is not possible to get the LabelWriter working with the Windows 7 drivers using the latest version of the Dymo Label Software.

We get a lot of requests for Vista drivers for old 300 series label printers, and there is some amount of confusion over this so here is the clarification:

The Dymo Labelwriter Vista driver (DLS 7.7 / DLS 7.8) works only for certain models (you can find the model number on the label underneath your printer):

LabelWriter 310: models 90966, 93029 & 93034
LabelWriter 320: models 90892, 93031 & 93036
LabelWriter 330 Turbo: models 90884, 93033 & 93038, USB ONLY

If you have these models the Vista driver should work. If you don’t have one of those exact models then the Vista driver will not work. At all. Whichever version of drivers you use.

The other models will still work on XP/2000 using the DLS 7.6 version.

As far as we know Dymo have no plans to include any further models in any future release of the drivers or software. Presumably there is some technical reason for this, after all the 300 series are getting quite old now and were around long before Vista.

If you have one of these ‘non-compatible’ labellers then Dymo, rather cryptically, suggest that you contact the Dymo Helpdesk for “a proper solution” – whatever that means.

Anyway, the helpdesk can be reached at helpdesk@dymo.com if you want to give it a go. And if you do, please report back here and let the King know what the solution is…

The new Dymo LabelWriter Software version 7.8 is now available for download in the UK. Just click on to this LabelWriter 400 page, then click on the round Windows logo marked ‘XP/2000/Vista Drivers’.

Here are the driver/software details:

This version of software does not support Windows 95, 98 or NT.
Customers still running Windows NT should use DLS 4.31.
Customers still running Windows 98 should use DLS 7.5.0.8.
Windows 95 is no longer supported.
This software only supports 300 and 400 series printers through direct USB connectivity:

LabelWriter 400 Series
LabelWriter 310 (models 90966, 93029 & 93034 ONLY)
LabelWriter 320 (models 90892, 93031 & 93036 ONLY)
LabelWriter 330 Turbo (models 90884, 93033 & 93038, USB ONLY)
LabelManager PCII
LabelManager 450
LabelPoint 350

For other models of LabelWriter 300 series, we advise to use DLS 7.6 for Windows 2000/XP users. Windows Vista users are advised to contact the Dymo Helpdesk for a proper solution.

Dymo Label Printers are currently running a promotion offering the faster Turbo model for the same price as the standard model.

Both the Dymo LabelWriter 400 and LabelWriter Turbo are currently on sale for only £79.99

The faster version has an RRP of £119.99 (ex VAT) so it is a saving of £40.

Both printers are the standard desktop label printers for use in the home and small offices. They are generally used for address labels, but are also often used for barcode labels, general office labels and filing.

The new version of the iPhone application “Print n Share” from EuroSmartz Ltd enhances the DYMO LabelWriter by allowing remote printing and greater ease of use for users whether in the office or on-the-go.

Dymo state “With the ‘Print n Share’ iPhone application, iPhone users with DYMO LabelWriter printers can tap directly into their desktops and have instant access to print labels from anywhere”, giving “Quick management of important lists or databases for mass mailings or reports Cross referencing capability to pull information from contact lists and emails”

If you actually understood what any of that meant, and it sounds useful, then the Print n Share application is available for download at the iTunes App store, costing just $6.99/£3.99 (existing users can upgrade for free).

The brand new Dymo LabelWriter 450 range has been launched in the US. The main difference is a change of colour, to a shiney black, improved print quality and faster print speeds.

The standard model runs at 51 labels/min (up from 40 lpm on the LabelWriter 400), and 71 label/min on the Turbo/Twin/Duo models (up from 55 lpm).

Also, the print quality has been improved from 300dpi to “600x300dpi”.

Unfortunately, these models aren’t due for release in the UK until at least 2010, according to Dymo insiders, so if you need a new Dymo LabelWriter you’re better off going for the current 400 series rather than waiting.

After being extended for an extra month the Dymo Time promotional campaign has now ended.

However, you can still claim your cashback until the end of August for purchases that were made during the Dymo cashback campaign (ie. April-July).

The ‘free starter pack with a LabelWriter printer’ offer is still running though, and you can get that exclusively at www.dymo-label-printers.co.uk until stocks run out.

The “Dymo Time” campaign originally targeted for April to June has now been officially extended to the end of July. Claims for cashback still need to be made via the www.dymotime.com website.

Sharing the LabelWriter via a HP 175x Ethernet USB print server.
